French duo Papooz will be at Salon IKSV once more on 11th May.
It was amazing to see them live 2 years ago at the same stage, well remembered energetic performance!
I once more had a chance to interview with Armand Penicaut of the duo.

Our last interview with you was in 2017, just before your first Istanbul concert. It was really an amazing gig, i still remember. What do you remember from that concert, city of Istanbul or audience?
It was mad! We didn’t know so much people were gonna come to see us! Full house ! We felt overwhelmed by the audience. Then it’s kind of blurry…a lot to drinks, flashes of taskim kebabs, we hate molds stuffed with rice. It was a great night!
Your last album "Night Sketches" was released early this month. How is the first reactions? Can you tell the story of this album? With whom did you work with, lyric writing and producing process?
Good! We had amazing feedback…ended with a 4 stars out of 5 in NME magazine. I guess we’re trying to tell the story of man vs the night and the city. It’s not a real concept album. But after demoing all the songs we kind of felt they were all related in their « ambiance », and sometimes in their lyrics to nightlife. It’s an ode to nightlife, its joys, its sorrows and what makes us alive basically. We worked closely with our friend and mentor Adrien Durand (from the french neo disco band Bon Voyage Organisation). We used his musicians to cut 14 tracks in La Frette studio near Paris. We worked their a week and did some additional recordings a month after that.
You will play at Salon İKSV once more on 11th May. What is awaiting for us about the concert?
Our new show! A lot of new songs! Maybe some additional musicians...
Which one of your songs would you recommend to someone if you want to introduce them to Papooz and why?
Ann Wants to Dance. Because it’s the song that started everything for us. It’s a mix of pop music with a touch of jazzy/bossa novesque vibe. It’s the best way to define our music.
Which bands/musicians are you listening on these days?
A lot of motown! Bill withers, Bobby caldwell, billy paul, marvin gaye… you just can’t beat these guys… I also like Weyes Blood, she’s the coolest new american singer. She’s got an amazing voice.
In a parallel universe where you are not making music, what do you think each of you would be doing for a living?
Ulysse would be a famous soccer player. That was his childhood dream. I’ll probably be a firework artist.
Can you tell us one fun fact about each other?
We’ve got the same astrological sign: taurus ascendant scorpio. That makes us bad motherfuckers right?

What is the most insane thing your fans did to get your attention?
They gave us fan arts, mostly in japan. It’s just very sweet! A pure act of love. We’re very grateful.
Is there anything that you are so passionate about except music?
Ulysse is a soccer fan. I’m a big movie freak.
What's your plans for near future? What's on your agenda?
Touring as much as we can is as many countries we can!
